Sizing a conveyor belt steel cord installation is a sequence, not a grade lookup. This guide runs the eight steps in the order a project actually needs them: collect the duty data that gets forgotten, calculate the running and starting tension properly, choose the ST class from that tension with a safety factor rather than from habit, fix width and cover from the material and the loading point, then set splice length, pulley diameters and take-up travel from the result. The last two steps cost money when skipped: check the drive and the start-up case against the belt you just specified, then issue a specification sheet that a supplier can actually be held to. Two worked cases run alongside the text: one where starting tension exceeded the design figure, one where take-up travel ran out in six months. Tables cover the duty data to collect, the tension to ST decision, the dimensional constraint chain, pulley and take-up figures, and the final acceptance checks.
