Search for component suppliers and you get directories and academic papers on tensile testing, but almost nothing aimed at the person who has to sign the purchase order. This guide is written for that person. It takes the three figures every quotation contains and explains what each one actually constrains: which number governs a long overland run, which governs a short high-impact transfer, and which only matters when temperature is involved. Tolerance reading gets its own section, because nominal, minimum and average values are quoted interchangeably and the difference decides whether a belt meets contract, followed by how to read a test report properly, including which standard the test followed, how the sample was taken and whether aged as well as unaged figures are given. The guide closes with six questions to ask suppliers, four documents to request, and the answers that should end the conversation.
