Nockenzahnriemen is a word with two lives. In the car parts market it means an engine cam belt; in a packaging or handling line it means a timing belt with welded or moulded cleats carrying product through a machine. This guide deals with the second, and says so in the first paragraph so the wrong buyer leaves early. The twelve checks that follow decide whether a cam belt survives commissioning: tooth profile family confirmed rather than assumed from pitch, pitch and cumulative pitch tolerance measured, width and cut-edge quality inspected, tooth form and tooth-face fabric examined, cleat geometry and positional tolerance measured, cleat attachment audited because that is where most field failures start, backing and backside material identified, tensile cord and rated tension checked, the splice examined on long open-ended belts, installation tension and take-up allowance confirmed, compound matched to the environment, and documentation, traceability and packaging insisted on.
