One of the most common procurement errors is allowing a fire-related specification to dominate every other part of belt selection. A belt can satisfy the specified flame test and still be unsuitable for the conveyor mechanically.

The buyer may also need to verify carcass strength, cover properties, abrasion conditions, impact duty, belt dimensions, splice requirements and compatibility with the conveyor design. In some applications, electrical conductivity or additional fire-safety characteristics may also be specified.
